Karen Yanez began working at Sea Mar Seattle Behavioral Health Center in August 2017. In July 2019, she began providing Behavioral Health services on site at Sea Mar Adolescent Clinic.

Prior to working at Sea Mar, Karen resided in El Paso, Texas. She obtained her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2014, graduating summa cum laude and with department honors from the University of Texas at El Paso. She also obtained her Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2017. During her graduate program, she completed a one year internship providing mental health services to children, adolescents, and their families at the El Paso Child Guidance Center.

From 2015 to 2017, she worked as a Registered Behavior Technician providing applied behavior analysis to children and adolescents with autism.

Karen provides an eclectic, strength-based approached to counseling. Depending on the client's needs, she draws from a variety of therapies including but not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, family systems therapy, and play therapy. She places an emphasis on psychoeducation and the therapeutic relationship and believes that every person is capable of reaching their full potential.

Karen's professional experience includes working with diverse cultures with an emphasis in the Latino culture, providing individual and group therapy in clinic and school settings, and providing services in both English and Spanish.

During her free time, Karen enjoys exploring the city, travelling, reading, watching films, baking and spending time with loved ones.
