Sarah Birkholz began her work with Sea Mar in January 2016, as a mental health therapist in the Child & Family Behavioral Health program in Bellingham. She has also worked in a variety of settings providing therapeutic services, to include psychiatric hospitals, prison, mobile crisis response teams, and as a forensic interviewer for a child advocacy center in South Carolina.

Sarah graduated summa cum laude with her Master of Science degree in counseling psychology in 2011, with a specialty in trauma recovery. She strongly believes that it's critical to treat the whole person and to meet them where they are with compassion and empathy. She conceptualizes every client in a holistic way, and utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques to meet their needs.

Sarah has a tremendous passion for working with survivors of trauma, such as domestic and sexual violence, and an interest in the intersection of trauma and addiction. She is also a passionate advocate and activist for the LGBTQIA+ community, and has extensive experience working with this population.

Sarah enjoys spending time with her partner and their four dogs, and exploring the Pacific Northwest. You may also find her performing spoken word poetry, creating art, spending time by the water, and enjoying live music!
