Dr. Cornelius Van Niel graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Washington in 1999.

Dr. Van Niel's philosophy of care is to provide and encourage comprehensive, high-level care for Sea Mar's pediatric patients and their families, allowing children to thrive and fulfill their potential. He gets great satisfaction through his work at Sea Mar because of the shared belief among his colleagues that the optimum health and well-being of all children is a crucial focus of the medical team's efforts.

Dr. Van Niel is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. His teaching responsibilities include precepting, mentoring, and lecturing for pediatric and family-medicine residents.

Dr. Van Niel enjoys playing the violin, ultimate frisbee, cross-country skiing, and spending time with his wife and children. His passion for serving the underserved is carried out through volunteer medical outreach work in rural communities in El Salvador.
