Dr. Ellen Rak is clinical director for two Sea Mar medical clinics in Skagit County. She has worked for Sea Mar since 1991.

Originally from Vernon, Connecticut, Dr. Rak graduated from the University of North Carolina, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Spanish. Her undergraduate work included a year of study at Universidad de Sevilla in Spain.

Dr. Rak earned a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1988 at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. In 1991, she completed her family medicine residency at Providence Hospital in Seattle. She brings international experience and perspective to Mount Vernon, having worked with a rural hospital team in La Vega, Colombia, health educators in southern India, and a community clinic serving the Hopi tribe in northern Arizona.

Dr. Rak enjoys working with providers and staff to improve the quality of patient care and improving service delivery. She recently worked with a team to develop and implement Sea Mar's computerized medical record-keeping system.

Dr. Rak's extensive volunteer work includes participation on the Child Protective Services Community Advisory Board, Skagit Physical Activity Coalition, Skagit County Alliance for Healthcare Access, Leadership Skagit, and several local schools.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Rak enjoys reading, sewing, gardening, hiking, her many pets, and spending time with her family.
