Program Description:
The Sea Mar Life Skills program is modeled off of an evidence-based substance abuse and violence prevention program. The program is aimed at reducing the rates of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse and violence in school-aged children. The curriculum promotes healthy alternatives to risky behavior through activities designed to teach students the skills to resist social pressure, improve decision making skills, manage stress and anxiety, set goals for themselves, and develop greater self-esteem. In this way, Life Skills targets the underlying social and psychological factors that can initiate risky behaviors, and helps students to acquire skills that will last them a lifetime.
Life Skills is currently being taught in conjunction with the after school programs of selected Seattle Public Schools, with students ranging from 3rd to 8th grade.
