All of our positions are full-time (40 hours per week) and require an 11-month commitment.
Department/City: Preventive Health Services, Seattle
Position: Pediatric Literacy Coordinator (1 Position)
Language Requirement: Strong writing skills in English and English language ability
Based out of Seattle, this position coordinates Reach Out and Read, a pediatric literacy program, that uses the “well-child check” to encourage early reading and to stimulate children’s development. The coordinator trains providers, schedules volunteer readers for the waiting room, re-orders books, seeks book donations, writes grants, and oversees extension initiatives to northern and southern clinics.
Department/City: Preventive Health/Maternity Support Services, Seattle
Position: Doula Labor Support (2 Positions)
Language Requirement: Bilingual Spanish/English required
Members train as a birthing doulas with Seattle Midwifery School. Doulas serve in maternity support services, providing pre- and post-labor education and assistance for clients who lack a support system. This position requires sensitivity, a willingness to work independently, and ability to handle a demanding on-call schedule. To learn more about the role of a doula, visit www.dona.org

Position: Health Education

Facilitators participate in health-education-related initiatives (subject to change as grants change):
- Diabetes Education and Outreach (1 Position):Facilitators assist with diabetes outreach and education for Latino community. The diabetes program functions within the REACH model (Racial & Ethnic Approaches to Community Health), and provides education and resources to the Latino community. Facilitators coordinate monthly diabetes days, which provide foot and eye exams to patients.
- Tobacco Education (1 Position): Facilitators assist Sea Mar’s health educator in tobacco education initiatives for adult populations including facilitating information sessions at the Mexican Consulate, facilitating support groups in Spanish and English and conducting cessation counseling sessions by phone.

Position: Volunteer Program Coordinator (1 Position)
Language Requirement: Spanish speaking or Bilingual ability preferred but not required.
This position coordinates a volunteer program within Sea Mar involving outreach and recruitment in various communities. The volunteer program coordinator interviews, makes placements, oversees volunteer contracts, maintains sites, does volunteer appreciation, organizes agency wide volunteer projects, and seeks to expand the program. This position works well for someone interested in seeing big-picture agency needs and learning about community networking.
Department/City: In-Patient Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, Seattle
Position: Arts Empowerment Educator (1 Position)
Language Requirement: English language ability required.
This position facilitates and continues enhancing a successful arts empowerment and health education program designed to complement youth treatment plans. A youth gardening project is a new component of this placement. Prior gardening experience desired but not required. The arts educator should have experience or strong interest with the arts as a tool for empowerment and/or healing, and in working with youth, ages 14-20.
Department/City: CommunityCare Center/Nursing Home, South Park, Seattle
Position: Intergenerational Program Coordinator (2 Positions)
Language Requirement: Spanish language ability preferred but not required.
Coordinator serves in nursing home and Alzheimer’s unit, facilitate resident activities (intended to stimulate, maintain, and heal). Coordinator manages the intergenerational program, a traditional Latino-oriented, family-centered model which encourages meaningful interaction between children from the child development center and residents from the nursing home. The coordinator should be creative, work well independently and in teams and enjoy working with elders and children.

Sea Mar and Partner Sites—Seattle, Burien, Tacoma, Olympia, Aberdeen, Vancouver and International Community Health Services (Seattle – International District)
Position: Patient Navigators
Language Requirement: Language requirements may vary for each site, see below for more information.
Patient navigators work with providers and other clinic staff to assist patients to access appropriate care, minimize no-shows, assure pre- and post-visit needs are met, facilitate brief education encounters related to chronic conditions, medically complicated cases and for patients with multiple barriers to clinical care. Navigators provide translation/interpretation and coordinate charity drug program assistance. Duties may vary as each position is customized to meet the specific needs of the host clinic.
Client populations vary:
- Sea Mar CHC specializes in service to the medically underserved Latino community.
- Language Requirement:
- Bilingual Spanish/English required: (Seattle, Burien, Vancouver) .
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred: (Olympia)
- International Community Health Services specializes in service to medically underserved Asian immigrant communities, and offers a Chinese traditional medicine clinic.
- Language Requirement: Asian language specialties including Vietnamese, Cantonese or Mandarin required.
