Institution: Antioch University

Carolyn Lowe began practicing therapeutic work at Sea Mar's Yelm Behavioral Health clinic in September of 2019 as a Marriage and Family Therapist working with children, adults and elders. Before practicing at Sea Mar, Carolyn completed her undergraduate work in psychology and ethnic, gender and labor studies at University of Washington, Tacoma. She then went on to do her internship at Good Samaritan Behavioral Health where she worked with children, adolescents and families. Carolyn also had an opportunity to get her certification with working with children and adolescents who have special developmental needs at the Mary Bridge Good Samaritan Children's Therapy Unit. This was especially her favorite part of her internship. Carolyn went on to earn a certification in Play Therapy, received her Gottman level 1 couples training and her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family therapy at Antioch University in Seattle.

Carolyn believes in being an advocate for historically marginalized populations as she identifies as being mixed race. She recently began expanding her work with grandparents that also parent their grandchildren to help them to stay up to date with the needs of their growing grandbabies. Carolyn is also working on expanding her knowledge in helping folks have better access to gender affirming care here in the south Puget Sound.

Carolyn has a background in leading discussion about diversity, equity and inclusion. She believes in transforming communities by providing an inclusive space and resources for folks wanting to engage and learn through exploration of human differences. Carolyn believes that therapy can be a fun and interesting place to learn and grow. Engaging our inner comedian, artist, musician, theatre performer, etc. is the way she likes to bring natural creativity to the therapeutic environment. We all have a voice to express our needs and creative ways we engage with the healing process. When you really slow down, the stories in us that need the most attention will speak through our natural abilities; sometimes not even needing words to tell these stories.

In addition to making art, reading, singing and playing cards with her kids, Carolyn spends her evenings and weekends with her dogs and making new beautiful memories with her loved ones.
