Dr. Ben Bryden recently joined Sea Mar after transitioning back to the United States from working as faculty at a developing family medicine residency in Lesotho, Southern Africa.

Before medical school Dr. Bryden studied Anthropology and Spanish at Iowa State University. He obtained an MD and MPH at the University of Iowa and developed a passion for global health, spending several months studying and working in Mali during his education. Dr. Bryden completed residency and a maternal-child health fellowship at John Peter Smith Family Medicine Residency in Fort Worth Texas. During his training, he spent extensive time working clinically and on other projects in Uganda, Zambia, Bangladesh, Mexico, Honduras, and Thailand.

Following his residency, Dr. Bryden worked as residency faculty in Colorado and then in Lesotho at the country’s only postgraduate training program in family medicine.

Clinically Dr. Bryden’s interests include inpatient medicine, obstetrics including operative obstetrics, obstetric ultrasound, point-of-care ultrasound, and endoscopy. Dr. Bryden has a passion for caring for the underserved and promoting family medicine globally, and continues to be involved in teaching family medicine residents in Lesotho and teaching obstetric ultrasound in Rwanda.

Outside of teaching and practice, Dr. Bryden enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, traveling, hiking, biking, running, and skiing.
