Sea Mar’s Healthcare for Homeless program works to ensure individuals who are homeless (including migrants) have access to quality health care. This includes primary health care (medical, preventive health and dental), substance abuse (drugs and alcohol) treatment and counseling, and mental-health services. Bilingual staff are available to reduce barriers to care by providing additional case-management services, including assistance with entitlement applications, translations, housing, employment, and job-training referrals. Clients also may be eligible at times for bus, shower and food vouchers.

The following Healthcare for Homeless services, including migrant outreach, are available in Bellingham and Mount Vernon:

  • Medical and dental coverage for the homeless: allows homeless clients to receive medical and dental services.

  • Prescription assistance: medical prescription assistance to low-income clients/patients, or those who have no income or insurance to cover the prescriptions.

  • Bus and shower passes: For homeless clients and medical/dental patients who need help attending appointments

  • Food Vouchers: for clients who meet eligibility criteria

  • Community Voice Mail

  • Shelter Outreach Services: medical and case-management services for local shelters.

  • Migrant Outreach Services: medical and health outreach and assistance for migrant populations during summer months.

  • Case Management: services for homeless families, including financial
    eligibility/entitlement assistance, assistance with translating documents, i.e., job applications, mail, DSHS paperwork, school enrollment paperwork.

  • Referrals for other Sea Mar services: health education, substance abuse, mental health, nutritional programs, maternity-support services, and seasonal childcare.

  • Referrals to community agencies: assistance with food, clothing and
    household items and other services.

Clients are encouraged to check back frequently to learn of other
opportunities and services that may become available.
