Carmen Muñoz Valdez - Licensed Mental Health Therapist

Carmen Muñoz Valdez joined the Sea Mar White Center Behavioral Health Clinic in October 2019 as a licensed mental health therapist. She became licensed as a marriage and family therapist in 2012. She received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Washington in 1998 and in 2010 she obtained her master's degree in psychology with a focus on children, couples, and family therapy from Antioch University-Seattle.

She has over 13 years experience working with youth, families, and adults in a therapeutic setting. She has trained in and utilizes various therapeutic modalities that include cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mentalization therapy, elements of psychodynamic psychotherapy, internal family systems and other trauma-informed modalities. She approaches her clients using a client-centered approach, working collaboratively with them to help them achieve their stated goals. Areas of interest and expertise include trauma, ADHD, anxiety, parenting, as well as relationship and communication issues.

Carmen is bilingual in both Spanish and English, having been born in Mexico, and raised in the U.S. She possesses a high degree of cultural sensitivity with regards to all cultures and world views. When Carmen is not working, she is feeding her insatiable quest for knowledge in all forms. She also has an affinity for the outdoors and enjoys spending time with friends and family.
